Race Director's NotesMessage from Mike

5/12/11:  Two weeks ago was our inaugural event at the Horse Park.  We loved every bit of it (even the poison ivy, mosquitos, and ticks).  Word on the battlefield is that you Spartans enjoyed the venue as well.  So, we'll be back in 2012, with bigger and better ideas.  Longer barbed wire crawls with lower barbed wire.  More horse crap in the mud (wasn't our idea... in fact we don't even know what horse crap smells like until someone pointed it out. I thought the mud smelled good!)  More swamp?  Maybe even a longer bucket brigade? Trying out crushed stone instead of dirt in our upcoming NY race so that might become our trademark finishing move.  Did you know that The Georgia International Horse Park was one of the sites for the 1996 Summer Olympics? Thus, a fitting location to continue holding races at.  Even if you've explored these trails before this will still be a novel experience for you.

1/6/11: The Georgia International Horse Park was one of the sites for the 1996 Summer Olympics and thus a fitting choice for the Atlanta stop of the Spartan Series. Chionis of Sparta was a (supposedly) three-time Olympian in the early B.C. days of the Olympic Games, illustrating Sparta’s commitment to the Olympics. This course doesn’t have the elevation gain as some of the others so bring your speed and run hard. It can be a fast course for those that so choose and have the abilities to back it up. What it lacks in elevation it makes up for in twisty single track, quick ups and downs, and some natural obstacles that we have identified hiding in this playground. This stood the test of the Olympic Mountain Bike Course and we are going to squeeze everything we can from it to create a fun and challenging course. Even if you’ve explored these trails before this will still be a novel experience for you. There won’t be any shortage of mud, barbed wire, and built obstacles, either!
